Make it Yourself (MIY/DIY), wedding

Easy Hand Lettered Wood Slices

Hello Creatives,

Happy New Year!

I was forced to do this DIY for my sister’s wedding and I had to do some research to get it right. I do have good handwriting but I am no calligrapher and I had a font on my computer that I thought would be the perfect script to use.

This technique I found online allowed me to execute these signs with ease! So, ofcourse I had to share it with you.

The first thing you will need are the wood slices. We were being extra so we actually cut down a tree from our home to get our slices. But in reality “ain’t nobody got time for that” on a regular basis so you can buy wood slices online here. If you do have the time though and the energy, do your thing honey! We gave the slices to a carpenter who treated them so they would be sealed. To complete this project you also need chalk or baby powder, a printed sheet with the text you want on the wood (printer paper will do) and a paint pen in a colour of your choice. I chose white as I believed it would be a great contrast for the dark wood slices. The paint pen I purchased at Practical Gift and Stationery in Kingston. Check out my Craft supplies page for more places to shop in Jamaica.

I placed the tutorial in this fun infographic below! Enjoy!

That’s it! 4 steps! I really enjoyed how these turned out and will definitely use this method for future projects. I also created a glass pane and a wooden sign using this method. Those are in the images below. Subscribe to the blog so you will never miss a post and please comment below if this tutorial was helpful. My social media is (@creativeibby) on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube so check it out for more cardmaking and craft projects!

Happy crafting!

  1. These are lovely!

I was excited to find your blog. I’m moving to Jamaica for the better part of two years, and I’ve been packing absurd amounts of crafting supplies in my luggage. Having someone to tip me off on places to buy things is so great. Plus, I adore craft blogs! Looking forward to exploring here 🙂
