Easy Plaid Cardstock Background – Thinking of You Card

Hello lovelies,

I hope this post finds you in good health. If there is any good in this uncertain and scary time, it is the fact that many of us have a lot of time. I implore you to make the best of it. For me I am very happy that I have gotten the chance to make cards again.

Today’s card is so easy, anyone, even kids can do it. I created a plaid background using strips of cardstock. It turned out pretty BOLD and is a card that is suitable for males based on the colour scheme used and has high impact with little prep.

Here is what you will need:

  • Foam Tape
  • Coloured cardstock
  • White cardstock
  • Corrugated cardstock
  • Glitter cardstock
  • Paper trimmer/exacto knife/blade for paper cutting
  • die cut greeting/ word or letter stickers

Here are the instructions:

  1. Cut white cardstock into a rectangle of your preferred size
  2. Cut coloured cardstock into strips of 0.75, 0.5, 1/16 and 1/8 inches ensuring the glitter cardstock is cut to the smallest size (1/16). Strips of the same size must be the same colour. You will need 6 strips for each colour. Also ensure that strips are long enough to cover cardstock length and width
  3. Using the largest strips first, glue 3 vertically and 3 horizontally on white background ensuring they are equally spaced. You will know they are well spaced if you are left with perfect squares where the white background is showing.
  4. Focusing on the white squares formed adhere the 0.5 inch strips in a similar manner with equal spacing BUT ensure that they run through the center of the white squares both horizontally and vertically.
  5. Glue the 1/8 inch strips horizontally and vertically so they run along the edge of the 0.75 inch strip
  6. Glue the glitter strips horizontally and vertically so they run in the centre of the 0.75 inch strip used
  7. Cut corrugated cardstock into 1 inch strip and adhere to the sides at the back of the card leaving 2/8 inch edge that can be seen at the front.
  8. When glue is dry, use your scissors and cut a wave pattern in corrugated edges.
  9. Adhere panel to folded card base
  10. Your card is complete!

Note that you can vary the colours and sizes to get different plaid looks. I would love to see your take on this card. email me at creativeibby@gmail.com with pictures.

  1. Love this! Masculine cards are hard to make but this one was good! I’m wondering what inside looks like 🙂

    1. Thank you Kaci! Masculine cards are a task. I usually make my cards blank inside unless a greeting is requested. I like heartfelt written notes inside. Thank you for your comment!!
