Word Window Shaker Card

Hey Lovelies!

I am a huge fan of shaker cards. The sparkle and variety catches the eye and is super fun. Shakers may come in many forms and can be made by using many different mediums. I’ll be doing a shaker video series soon (hopefully) so stay tuned to see when that’s happening. Today’s blog shows you how to make a shaker card with a word window cutout.

Here’s what you will need:

  • Electronic or manual cutting machine. (If you do not have either you can pencil in or print the word on cardstock and cut out with an exacto knife)
  • white cardstock
  • various sequins and beads in a colour scheme of your choice
  • foam tape
  • acetate (for window)

Here are the instructions:

  1. Cut your cardstock to 4.25 x 5.5 inches.
  2. Cut out printed word with exacto knife or use your electronic die cutting machine to cut out the word. Remember to keep the negative pieces of the letters such as D and A so that you won’t lose the center white piece for letters such as these. They are needed to properly define the letter shape.
  3. Cut your acetate a bit smaller than your panel. What you MUST ensure is that whatever size it is, it covers all the letters and has space left over to be glued on to the uncut part of your panel.
  4. Turn to the back of your panel and glue all the way around your acetate edge. Ensure that you are adhering the acetate to the uncut areas of your panel and that all of the edge is glued. If glue shows through in the letter spaces just wipe off with warm water. WhatsApp Image 2019-06-30 at 7.07.58 AM
  5. Place foam tape around the edges of the panel at the back. The foam tape must form a seal for your sequins so they will not fall out. As such ensure that the tape is flush on all sides.
  6. Pour your  beads and sequins  in and place another white panel on top of your foam tape to seal in the bits.
  7. YOU CAN NOW TURN YOUR SHAKER PANEL OVERWhatsApp Image 2019-06-30 at 7.08.00 AM (1)
  8. Glue your panel onto a card base
  9. Decorate the front of your panel with hearts or more sequins
