Adding texture to your cards with flocked vinyl – Cricut Explore

Hi friends,

Today I’m sharing a fun way to add subtle texture to your cards using flocked vinyl. The flocked vinyl gives a velvety raised feel to the card and is perfect for adding interest. You can use flocked vinyl with your dies or your electronic cutting machine. It eliminates the need to add glue to your project as well because the backside already has adhesive which can be ironed on. For this project my flocked vinyl is Iron on and my white vinyl is simple adhesive vinyl.

Vinyl can be a very helpful material especially when cutting designs where you need both the negative and positive of the design to remain exactly how it was cut. As you can see, that was definitely needed for this card. I cut all the pieces of this card, except the bird using my Cricut Explore. You can see the design here and cut for yourself if you own a Cricut. I substituted the bird in design space. The specific die I used for the bird is listed in the supply links below.

I used white adhesive vinyl, dark blue flocked iron on vinyl and sky blue cardstock along with red shimmer cardstock for the bird and hearts. I used silver holographic cardstock for the sentiment and wrote the sentiment strip using my UNIBALL signo white gel pen and a Cricut pen adapter.

I weed the design out of the white vinyl leaving the negative portion (outer part of the design). I then weed the blue flock, discarding the negative and keeping the inner design I adhered the white adhesive vinyl on the card base then in the spaces, ironed on the blue flock vinyl. I used a regular iron on cotton setting with steam off for about 15 sec. I removed the plastic backing on the flock. If a portion was not properly adhered I simply heated that area again with the iron until it stuck to the paper.

The bird was cut using this ever so cute Layered Birdie die from Simon says Stamp. The remaining pieces were adhered to the front of the card.
