Color theory – Stretch your inks with complementary colors.

As cardmakers we use color theory every time we use our inks but we tend to use triadic colors to get that beautiful rainbow or analogous colors to get that smooth blend! What if I told you that complementary colors can take your cardmaking to the next level. In today’s video I will show you how to use the ink pads you already have to create moody, muted and dimensional colors using complementary colors.

For the blue cards I cut a stitched oval from white and kraft cardstock using Ellen Hutson dies. For the kraft and white card, I blended white pigment ink on the top half of the oval and stamped my greeting in black ink. I stencilled the flowers using Pink Fresh Choose Hope Stencil with peacock feathers oxide ink and stamped the line art with black ink as well. I cut out the flower and a silver cardstock backing using the coordinating die. I blended peacock feathers at the top of the front panel and the base of the card base and placed a little piece of silver cardstock at the top of the oval. I then adhered the card pieces together.

For the white and blue card, I blended peacock feathers distressed oxide with ripe persimmon distressed oxide underneath on a white oval. I also stencilled the flower in the same order using candied apple under mowed lawn for the leaves and ripe persimmon under peacock feathers for the blue flower. I embossed a white a2 panel with Simon Says Stamp Magical embossing folder and used gold metallic ink to swipe on top of the raised areas. I backed the white oval with gold glitter cardstock and also backed the flower cutout with gold glitter cardstock. I stamped my sentiment in black ink and adhered the card pieces together.
